FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Bring?

First and foremost, don’t forget to pack your own linens for the beds, for bathing and for swimming (we do not provide sheets, pillow cases, blankets or comforters, large bath towels, washcloths, swim towels, basic hair and body soaps or hair dryers). Please check in with us before your stay for the exact sheet sizes to pack for your cottage(s). Other than that we recommend bringing basic camping and beach supplies such as charcoal, firewood, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, flash lights, clothing for both warm and cool temps and maybe a book or two to read in the sun-filled days on the dock. Many of our guests stop in Sturgeon Bay before arriving to buy bait, beer, groceries and other provisions. Ice can be purchased at 'Johnny G's Fishing Hole' just a 1/4 mile down the road from Robertson's.

Why don’t you provide linens?

We are a small family run business, and we don't possess the facilities to process or keep up with the amount of laundry required to furnish linens for 7 cottages. This also helps to keep our cottages as clean, sanitary and safe for you, our guests!

Are you pet friendly?

Dogs are welcomed guests at Robertson’s. There is a $10.00 per night per pet fee. Small orange shovels are located around the property for cleaning up after your dogs. When leaving your dog(s) unattended in a cottage we ask that you make arrangements to check in on them for their safety and to avoid damages to the cottages. Puppies may never be left unattended-If you will be leaving make arrangements to crate them or bring them. If you would like furniture coverings for your pet(s) please do not hesitate to ask! We are more than happy to supply you with some! We allow up to 3 dogs per cottage. If your pet(s) are not house broken, are a potential aggression hazard to other guests and their pets, or have a tendency to be destructive, we kindly ask that you refrain from bringing your pet with you.

Do you offer boat rentals?

We do not offer boat rentals nor do we offer boat rides to our guests. There are several options available close by in Sturgeon Bay for boat rentals. We suggest Door County Boat Rental. You can visit them online at www.doorcountyboatrentals.com, or give them at call at 920-746-6071.

Do you have a place I can dock my boat, and if so are there plug-ins available?

We sure do! We offer dock slips for $10 night, and we can guarantee at least one dock slip per cottage. We may have more than one slip to offer per cottage depending on how many of the other guests have brought boats with during the time of your stay.

Can I fish off the dock?

Absolutely! It is a favorite activity among many of our guests, and some even have a bit of luck!

Do you sell bait?

Nope, but we know JUST the place! Howie’s Tackle is Door County’s largest bait and tackle shop, located in Sturgeon bay just 8 miles from Robertson’s! They have great selections, are eager to answer any and all questions and may even have a few tips and tricks up their sleeves to support you in getting the most out of your fishing trip in Door County. Howie’s is located at 1309 Green Bay RD (HWY 57), Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. You can check in with them ahead of your trip by calling 920-746-9916.

Is there a fire pit?

There is a cozy communal fire pit close to the waterfront for all of our guests to use. We do not provide firewood, though there is usually a very large pile of scrap wood near the pit that guests are welcome to help themselves too. In addition to the fire pit, every cottage also has its own fireplace or wood burning stove. We ask that guests provide their own firewood to use inside their cottage and not take from the pile of scrap wood.

What is the maximum amount of people that can stay in a single cottage?

All of our cottages are set up to comfortably sleep 6 people. If you would like more than 6 people to stay in a single cottage, there is a fee of $20 per night per additional guest of any age. Some of the cottages are a bit more spacious and could fit up to 8 or 9 people if some folks are open to sleeping on sleeper sofas and couches.

Do all cottages have access to the waterfront?

Absolutely, the waterfront area of the property is considered a “common area”. You’ll discover many guests spend their entire day here! Even the most inland cottage is only about a 20-30 second stroll to the water’s edge.

Do you offer winter cottage rentals?

No, none of the cottages were constructed to be lived in during the winter.

What city are you closest to and how long does it take to get there?

Sturgeon Bay is the closest city and is about a 15 minute drive (9.6 miles) through Idlewild’s tree-laden winding road from the cottages.

We are open to offering the Robertson’s grounds for such activities depending on the time of year and how fully booked we are as we do not want to interfere with the experience of our guests. Can I have my wedding or host an event at Robertson’s Cottages?

We are open to renting all of Robertson’s Cottages to host events, family reunions, weddings, etc. We are only able to host larger events during our spring pre season (May and June) and fall post season (late August, September, and October). Robertson’s Cottages only provides a space and lodging for such gatherings and is not involved with any of the catering or running of the event etc. You are more than welcome to use any outside catering services, etc. at Robertson’s. The maximum capacity of our property is 100+/- guests and we can provide overnight lodging for a maximum of 60+/- people. There are plenty of options for overnight lodging in the area to accommodate any guests you have that aren’t able to stay at Robertson’s due to cottage capacities. All 7 cottages must be rented for events as we can only offer the property during a time when we have no other scheduled guests as it would interfere with their overall experience while staying at Robertson’s. Our minimum stay policy of 2 nights still applies. If you are interested in potentially hosting a large event at Robertson’s, please contact us via email at [email protected].
